A hypoid gear is a motion transmission device whose tooth surface is a non-rotating curved surface based on a hyperboloid. Widely used in automotive transmission, engineering machinery, aerospace and other fields. Compared with other shapes of gears, hypoid gears have the following characteristics:

  1. High transmission efficiency;

  2. Stable transmission, small vibration and low noise;

  3. Strong carrying capacity and long service life;

  4. Suitable for high-precision motion transmission occasions.

Parameters of hypoid gears

  1. Number of teeth: The number of teeth refers to the number of teeth on the gear, usually represented by z. The more teeth, the higher the transmission efficiency, but at the same time the manufacturing cost will increase accordingly.

  2. Modulus: The modulus is the basic parameter used to calculate the gear tooth shape size, usually expressed in m. The larger the modulus, the higher the strength of the gear tooth surface, but the manufacturing difficulty will increase accordingly.

  3. Tooth height: Tooth height refers to the distance from the top of the tooth to the bottom of the tooth, usually represented by h. The size of the tooth height is related to the tooth pitch. The larger the tooth height is, the greater the load on the gear will be.

  4. Tooth pitch: The tooth pitch refers to the distance between the tooth tops of the gear, usually represented by p. The larger the pitch, the greater the load on the gear.

  5. Top height coefficient: The top height coefficient refers to the ratio of the top height to the modulus, usually represented by ha. The larger the top height coefficient, the higher the tooth top of the gear will be.

  6. Tooth width: Tooth width refers to the axial width of the gear tooth surface, usually represented by b. The size of the tooth width is related to the load on the gear.

  7. Pressure angle: The pressure angle refers to the angle between the normal line of the tooth surface and the tangential line. The size of the pressure angle will have a great impact on the transmission performance of the gear.
